Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today sent a video to President Trump exposing the corrosion and damage at the Gateway Tunnel. The Governor is calling on President Trump and Washington to stop playing politics and fund their share of the Gateway Tunnel project, an essential portion of the Northeast Corridor that connects New York and New Jersey and is the nation’s most urgent major infrastructure project.
On Wednesday night, Governor Cuomo toured the Gateway Tunnel to gather footage demonstrating the extent of the damage. During Superstorm Sandy, both tubes in the North River Tunnel were inundated with seawater, causing falling concrete, corroded electrical cabling and standing water damage. The damage caused by Superstorm Sandy has been compounded by the tunnel’s age and the intensity of its current use.
