401(k) Retirement Plan

The STBA, in cooperation with Transamerica, has created a multiple-employer 401(k) Retirement Plan that costs the employer only $350.00 per year. The plan has 34 investment choices, includes lifestyle funds, and participant account information is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Owners and highly-compensated employees may elect to use the plan’s “Safe Harbor Option”, which allows owners and highly compensated individuals to save up to $18,500 a year without going through typical 401(k) discrimination testing. The employer has the option of whether or not they want to make matching contributions at all. Profit sharing and Davis-Bacon contributions are allowed.

This plan will help you to establish a valuable benefit to help you retain employees. This is a great benefit to our members and we urge you to look into it, whether or not you currently have a retirement plan in place. We have had member save as much as $5,500.00 a year by utilizing our plan. Form 990 preparation and audit fees are included in the above figure.

Educational Seminars

We often hold educational seminars to keep members up to date with new regulations affecting the industry such as insurance laws, New York State Family Leave and health insurance benefits.

Compliance Assistance

We work with as many as four law firms to be sure members are compliant with current rules and regulations. New York State has recently mandated that every employer have all their employees trained in Sexual Harassment by January 1st of 2019 and once a year thereafter. BEST has already distributed a standardized company sexual harassment policy to all its members for adoption and is currently working on a standardized training program which it will run several times a year going forward.

Advocacy

BEST serves as an industry advocate when needed. Our most recent project is trying to get New York State to recognize their unrealistic Minority & Women Business Enterprise utilization standards down to a fair and equitable level. BEST has teamed up with twenty nine other New York Associations whom have all donated $5,000 each and have hired a prominent Albany-based law firm to bring suit in an attempt get the utilization levels to a more realistic level.
